Making a home
'What does it take to make a home?' The places I have come call home have differed significantly. As such, I have been faced with this question a multitude of times, and gradually deepened my understanding of what home means to me. As a persistent traveller who is sentimental by nature, I tend to keep my focus fixed on what lies ahead, while treasuring memories of places and people with whom I have crossed paths. Home has come to signify the present, the ‘here and now’. In moments of vulnerability as much as during life’s most exciting ventures; as we turn chapters, relocate and rediscover ourselves in light of our new surroundings - home is plausibly as much an internal notion as it is an external condition. A concept that we carry wherever we go; an inner mood and an outer atmosphere at once. A place of peace, function and festivity. No matter the continent and context, home is where we resort to after long days and recharge for the next. Where memories are stored and new ones are made. Home concerns who we are within and where we make space for ourselves and find belonging.
